“Parenting as a queer and masc person is no different – one of the biggest shifts I’ve noticed is that when I walk down the street with a baby, everyone wants to stop and talk to me. When I’m by myself, no one approaches me, especially straight people. You put a baby with a butch person and all of a sudden we’re normalized. The same thing happens when I walk down the street with my wife – I guess when you’re a butch dyke, you need a femme or a baby to seem approachable. Maybe they think we’re all angry or something. Maybe we are! Jokes aside, being a visibly queer parent can come with its challenges. No one wants to feel like they’re the only queer in the room, and especially as a parent I sometimes wonder what they’re thinking, trying to figure out who’s who in the family. Our family is a little unconventional because I had my girls with my first wife, and now a baby with my new wife. We were the first among our friend group to go through a divorce with kids, but somehow we came out the other side and everyone gets along. My current wife and my ex-wife jokingly call each other “sister wives” and we all share the parenting – it’s funny and wonderful. I’ve had some friends go through divorces and I always try to tell them that there’s life on the other side, I promise.” - @regmartocci of @woodlandrealtypdx 📸 by @esthergoodboy Full story over at Patreon.Com/ButchIsNotADirtyWord Link in stories 🥰
