Does the new Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collaboration feel familiar? Of course it does. The partnership between the French fashion house and Japanese artist dates back to 2006, when LV’s then-creative director Marc Jacobs visited Kusama’s Tokyo studio. “Kusama presented Jacobs with a Louis Vuitton Ellipse bag with a monogram canvas she had painted over with dots,” says TRR’s Senior Valuation Manager Billy Garcia. Six years later, LV debuted a range of clothing and accessories — like this Monogram Vernis Dots Infinity Lockit MM — featuring Kusama’s signature spots.
