My mother had been in remission from breast cancer for four years till it came back with a vengeance in 2021. It had resurfaced in her liver, and we had a tough time accepting it because she had been happy and healthy for quite a long time. Unfortunately, it got steadily worse in early 2022 and in May, she had to be admitted to hospital. A month later, her condition deteriorated. Having given her all, fighting the disease, she passed on peacefully. We were, and still are, in mourning and our hearts have been irrevocably filled with deep sadness. Sadly, just before she passed on, she had tested positive for COVID-19. Due to this, we had to make special arrangements for her funeral and were unable to give her a proper burial. Losing my mother to cancer while going through a pandemic has been really difficult for my family and I. We find strength in keeping her spirit alive by remembering her kindness and compassion, and continuing her acts of generosity. It’s also important to realise that it is not how long we live, but how we live that matters. We need to make the most of the time we have before it’s too late. #projectlionheartsg
