“30 Days in September” is the first theatrical production that I’ve directed and the very first time in a decade of performing that I have ever gotten to play a role that was written to be played by a Desi woman. The process has been beautiful, vulnerable, scary, cathartic and life changing. I am so grateful for the space to wear my jhumke and take the stage in Hinglish telling the important story of a woman breaking the cycle of generational silence that plagues so many of the women of my culture. I’m so grateful for the community that came, contributed and shared space with me. Here’s to more Brown stories. To not being afraid to share my culture and story. To more healing, mental health resources, genuine listening and to breaking the cycles of generational trauma.
