The tempietto of the original building was removed in phases, possibly beginning in the early 1980s. For the restoration of Nine Orchard, a team of architects and historians rebuilt the domed spire using many archival photos from varying periods, as well as a singular, 1911 drawing filed with the New York City Department of Buildings.
