On the latest #FrickFocus — Olafur’s ‘Colour experiment no. 109’, is currently on display at the Frick Collection, New York, until 22 January 2023. Inspired by Claude Monet’s 'Vétheuil in Winter' 1878–79, Olafur’s work began by abstracting the palette of the work using a colour-calibrated photograph. Spreading the colours out across the surface of the round canvas, the painting can be seen as a gradient colour wheel, transitioning from dark to light. The artwork was two years in the making (video: George Koelle). To listen to a longer audio overview by Xavier F. Salomon, Deputy Director and Peter Jay Sharp, Chief Curator, head over to @FrickCollection
