Drawing breath to wish everyone a belated but heartfelt happy Earth Day from Rio. I think we all know and can feel that our planet is hurting but it’s not too late for us to give Mother Nature the chance to recover that she needs. To do so we need to act on the wisdom of those who understand how to protect her best. Indigenous peoples are the ones who have that knowledge and yet they are fighting for their lives. Yesterday we hosted an Earth Day lunch at the @fasano with our friends from UN @pactoglobalbr and were honoured to welcome the Indigenous leader @txaisurui from Rondônia and @thiagoyawanawa from Acre to share with us their feelings about the situation. We learned that the struggle faced by the Amazon is in fact the struggle faced by Indigenous peoples for they are one ecosystem. This is a struggle of Indigenous rights and environmental justice. We were joined by our @togetherbandofficial ambassador and #togetherlive host @samanthaschmutz who chaired the discussion with her unmistakable elegance and charm, along with key figures from across the media spectrum in Brazil. Our gathering also marked the launch of our #YAWATOGETHER collection; created at our new workshop and atelier in the Amazon. After two years of challenges and development it felt good to share the first pieces made from regenerative, recycled and sustainably sourced materials. We also learned from Txaí that Indigenous peoples want collaboration. The only way to move forward is in unity; with an open heart and mind about new ways of working together to overcome the challenges that we face. Thanks to @camaroten1 for using their extraordinary platform at Rio Carnaval to steer the collective narrative towards the Amazon at this iconic cultural moment and to @ambipar.group for stepping in to support our mission which aligns so closely with their focus on circularity.
