There’s something mesmerising about watching Echidnas eat with their 15 centimetre long tongue covered in sticky treacle-like saliva. The tongue is rapidly shot in and out to lick up insects such as ants and termites. The name Tachyglossus (which is their scientific name) means `fast tongue. In captivity theres no way we would be able to supply the demand for the amount of ants and termites they need on a daily basis, so a substitute diet is made which resembles a meaty, protein milkshake. If you want to feed our Echidnas and see if they really are as spiky as they look, make sure you book an encounter, we have them daily at 12:20 $50pp for 20mins #echidna #tounge #animals #loveanimals #wildlifephotography #wildlife #wildlifeaddicts #conservation #wildlifeofinstagram #wildlifelovers #wildlifeonearth #tasmania #eastcoasttasmania #tasmaniagram #discovertasmania #instatasmania #visittasmania #seetasmania
