Reposting this gem - I partnered with my friend and fellow chemist @sciencemeetscosmetics to bring you the science-based approach to hair washing: 🚿 How often you wash will depend on a few factors like your hair texture (curly/straight/wavy), your sebum production (how much oil your scalp produces) and grooming habits (some people like to wash their hair every day). 🚿 Since shampoo is meant to be used on your scalp (not the length of your hair) we need to break down washing recommendations depending on your scalp type: OILY SCALPS: should wash *at least* 2-3x per week to prevent developing scalp conditions like dandruff. The accumulated oils can exacerbate the growth of fungi, resulting in itchy, flaky scalps. DRY-NORMAL: this is the category most people fall under, and if you are one of them, you can get away with washing your hair as little as 1x per week. Of course if you exercise or feel dirty you can wash it more often. 🚿 Keep in mind that every time you wash your hair with a traditional sulfate-containing shampoo, the formula removes all oils - which is great for your scalp health but not so great for the hair length, which has internal lipids that shampoo also strips off, leaving it more prone to breakage. 🚿 If you need to wash your hair often, here are some tips to help you protect your hair length: ✨ Apply oil on the length of your hair BEFORE showering (coconut oil is a great option) ✨ Choose milder surfactants to avoid dryness on your scalp and hair Drop all your questions below and let me know if you like posts with this much info ❤️ #oilyhair #dryscalp #hairwash #hairwashroutine #healthyhair #longhair #hairgoals #scalphealth #scalp #shampoo #surfactants #washday #sciencebasedhaircare
