Interview by Giulia Ottavia Frattini Photos by Amely Sommer Performer: Roman Ole, Shade Théret, Magdalena Mitterhofer Giulia: While diving into your pieces seeking to savour their taste as a spectator myself, I felt I was standing somewhere between an intemperate loosening of logic and a highly cerebral disposition. To relish the visual lushness and to capture the conceptual stance of your works emerged as concomitant inclinations. The antithetical principles of Apollonian and Dionysian manifested blatantly. Leila: That sounds about right. I am interested in the audience and the triggers that can be elicited or enacted on them, not to gain consent or approval necessarily, but the idea of entertainment with any sort of response is something I’m very conscious of. I grew up in Los Angeles, where the world of "Hollywood" and "show business" is omnipresent, so that is probably why this is engrained in my approach. Also, the line between performance and theatre can be fluid. The 70s TV interview style, with its peculiar way of addressing the spectatorship and its wording, strongly informs me, too. The writing process behind the dialogues or monologues for my pieces is closely related to that.
