Jean-Michel’s painting, Untitled (Pollo Frito), was acquired by art dealer Fay Gold from the Annina Nosei Gallery in NYC in 1982. She had initially planned on buying a diamond bracelet with the $5,000 from her husband as a birthday present, but decided instead to purchase this 12 foot by 6 foot painting, where Basquiat contemplates race, consumption and corporate greed, amidst vibrant, explosive shades of red, yellow and orange. Three years later, Fay invited Jean-Michel to her gallery in Atlanta to collaborate on a show, which opened in 1986. ph. Artwork: Untitled (Pollo Frito), 1982
