My last trip before the pandemic was to Rio for Carnaval. It felt so good to be back. The experience is like being connected with a main artery of mystical life force. It’s impossible not to feel inspired, uplifted and charged by this expression of all that it is to be human.
Bursting in satire, the procession covers everything; from social and environmental to political and economical. From a float with Bolsonaro contracting covid and turning in to an alligator to a heartfelt tribute to the late comedian and national treasure Paulo Gustavo.
A moving meditation on heartbreaking loss and overwhelming achievement all rolled in to one. Every colour and emotion...
The perfect platform to launch our YAWA @togetherbandofficial campaign and activate a discussion around the critical importance of the conservation of the Amazon and its Indigenous guardians, in partnership with the original Rio Carnaval collective @camaroten1, the leaders of circularity @ambipar.group and UN @pactoglobalbr.
Thanks to photographer @thiagoyawanawa who joined us to shoot portraits of cultural figureheads wearing our bands made in the rainforest with açai seeds by the Yawanawá and our guest of honour @txaisurui. The final of Carnaval 2022 takes place this weekend with the champions parade with the winners of all corners of the country but for radical positivity, love and unrelenting optimism in the face of all that is wrong; Brazil wins hands down. 🔥🌈💗🌴✊🏻🌎
