I will open a new exhibition of paintings at @galerieperrotin in Tokyo on August 26th 6-8 pm. Please join! This new series is an evolving project around Still Life painting. It is a genre that is familiar to every art student and has a firm basis in Art History. The paintings I am most interested in use objects as vehicles for allegory and symbolism. I have combined tropes from historical examples like fruit, books, flowers and fabric but the objects are from mixed eras. You might find an eroded 2nd Century Greek bust next to an ACW Air Force 1. This notion of floating or blended time is familiar territory for me, but in this case the medium is painting instead of sculpture. The paint used is a custom blended ultra thick acrylic that was specially made for me by @goldenpaints. The high pigment load and viscosity produce a luscious velvety surface that is so satisfying. 😇
