Rob's ARTTT (A Rare Teenage Tumour Trust) aims to support research into Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour (DSRCT), an aggressive sarcoma cancer, after its founder, Rob Holland, died from the disease in 2007, aged 15. 10 years on, his mother, Amanda Dunkerton, continues to support our research in his memory.
We were delighted to welcome @robsarttt to the ICR's laboratories to meet Professor Janet Shipley, whose team studies sarcoma cancers associated with poor clinical outcomes, including DSRCT. We're extremely grateful for their significant donation to support our research into developing treatments for this disease.
During their visit, Professor Shipley shared more on the progress her team has made into understanding the biology of DSRCT and in identifying vulnerabilities of the disease that have the potential to be therapeutically targeted.
Professor Shipley also shared how the team are developing better 3D models of these cancers in the lab. These 3D models better mimic how tumours grow in the human body and therefore are hugely valuable in helping us to test these possible targeted therapies.
Amanda said, "The visit to the lab was incredible. We were proud to give a fund of £30,000 to go to much needed research. We loved meeting all the team."
