Project recap! The Race Service x McLaren Automotive 01R Capsule Collection. Containing two pieces, a T-Shirt and Hoodie, the collection celebrates McLaren's iconic F1 GTR chassis 01R, the underdog winner of the 1995 24-hour race of Le Mans, and directly pulls its design cues and textures from this historic machine. Any racecar that managed to survive the Le Mans 24 crossed the line looking like a battle scarred war machine, covered in grime, debris, oil, rubber particles, and brake dust. Many had damaged body panels, held on by duct tape, with decals flaking off and pitted up paint. With this project, we translated the look and feel of the post-race 01R McLaren F1 GTR onto the garments, going for that textured, weathered feeling. We also decided to make the collection feel like a time capsule from 27 years ago, as if the items were designed and produced to celebrate the victory back in 1995. Our aim was to tell this story in the garments, but also in all the media content created to showcase the capsule collection. Super fun and super excite that the pieces sold out so fast.
