The world has lost a fierce light. In the short time I got to know Uncle Jack, he welcomed me, a total stranger, to travel with him down to Bendigo to be a part of the opening of the Ullumbarra theatre. Years later I’m still touched by his trust, his openness, his candor and his fiercely joyous spirit that he shared so generously. Making this painting is one of my special-est experiences, because of the kindness and trust he showed me to learn his story and capture a special moment of it. What a special soul. Today is a sad day. Vale Jack, rest easy.
