Don’t make excuses that you “feel bad” or are shy. If you want the hair that you want, speak - kindly and articulately. - If you’re not great with descriptions, use visuals. Be realistic and understand that if the people in your reference images don’t have the same hair type as you, the end result may differ slightly. Identify what it is you like about those pictures - mood/vibe, hair length, texture, colour, movement etc - Remind yourself that a person can be talented in one field and not others - a great colourist may not have the same strength in cutting; and a great stylist may cut hair really well but not do finishing styles as well. Some are multi talented of course, but discovering this is trial and error. - Change stylist if you’re not getting the results you want. Staying with a stylist who isn’t the right fit for you is like being guilted into staying in the wrong relationship. That’s on you. Put your big girl/boy pants on and move on. Be happy and have good hair FFS. - Sit straight and tall, don’t cross your legs, and try to take a break from your phone (trust me this one is hard for me too) - Don’t touch your hair while someone is working on it. Wait until they’re totally done. Please. Reread this one. - Consider professionals’ objective opinions but always trust your gut and ask for what YOU want. It may be a collaborative effort - be open minded and trusting, and also know thine self and be true. - Follow up with proper haircare at home. Invest in good shampoo, conditioner, styling products that maintain your hair services and extend the results.
