"My work aims to develop the next drug or drug combinations to help treat lung cancer."
Meet Dr Anna Minchom, Associate Honorary Faculty in our division of Clinical Studies. She works to develop new drugs or drug combinations for people with lung cancer. This includes identifying combinations of drugs to overcome resistance to existing anti-cancer drugs and identifying which lung cancer patients are more likely to respond to new cancer treatments. She shares more about her work below:
"I did my research degree in the ICR, where I was impressed at an early stage by the inspiring research the ICR produces. The links between the ICR and The Royal Marsden make it an ideal place to run complex clinical trials and the associated laboratory research which are vital in developing new drugs for cancer treatment.
"My work is quite varied, but my favourite part of the job has always been treating patients. I find it a huge privilege to get to know patients and their families over their time participating in a clinical trial.
"I'm currently involved in overseeing several clinical trials. Some examples of the bigger projects I'm working on include developing clinical trials for immunotherapy combinations treatments in patients where immunotherapy on its own has stopped working, and a clinical study to test a PET scan specifically for lung cancer patients receiving immunotherapy."
We've made huge progress in discovering new targeted treatments for cancer, helping patients live longer and well with cancer. With your support today, we can unlock new combinations of treatments to continue outsmarting cancer.
