The new garden room that we added to this lovely house as part of the extensive refurbishment carried out two years ago. The house was formed from an old 18th century barn that had been converted into a dwelling in the early 1970s. The work had been well done in some ways, but the layout was dark and pokey, the windows had sadly completely rotted, and the house needed re-wiring and re-plumbing. Finally the two extensions that had been added onto the original central barn had no insulation and leaked like a sieve in the strong south westerly storms encountered on this coast. We extended the ground floor with two new single storey wings and covered the damp walls in traditional Cornish slate hanging - the most effective and local means of protection against the weather. Beautiful planting and landscape design by Julian and @isabelbannerman - on this side of the house, an all white garden. Swipe to the far right to see what we began with. The transformation is in many ways subtle, but has completely changed the flow of the house from inside to out, reconnecting the ground floor rooms to the astonishing landscape beyond. All the work overseen by the careful eye of @pwdeane in the studio.
