6 years ago this week, @chammes84 and I closed on our current house, which makes this almost the longest we’ve ever lived in one place while together.
.
Moving here was a bit of a leap - we basically knew no one and had only visited on brief vacations before - but it turned out to be one of the best decisions we ever made.
.
Since we're also coming up on the 2 yr anniversary of the #browncountybarnburner being open, I've been reflecting on the decisions that brought us here and now seems like as good a time as any to re-introduce ourselves:
.
We met in college Fall 2005 and were together 4 yrs before getting married in July 2009.
.
Since then, we’ve renovated ourselves across central IN (living in 3 different towns and owning 4 houses), added 2 daughters to our family (2013 and 2015), and discovered that we really want out of life is a slower pace, to live somewhere that feels a little bit like vacation every day, and to achieve financial independence with the option of ‘early retirement.’
.
All our choices eventually led us to move to Brown County in Fall 2016, and sometimes we still pinch ourselves at that. Since moving here, we've both switched jobs, gotten involved in the community, and ultimately dreamed up, designed, and built the Barn Burner.
.
I'll share more about that part of the journey in another post, but thanks for joining me in this trip down memory lane! To wrap it up, here are a few things that make us, us:
.
💪We will DIY almost anything (sometimes to our detriment), but we thrive on learning, problem solving together, and the sense of pride that comes from knowing we made something happen ourselves
.
🌎We love traveling and have gone to some amazing international destinations, but we also really love camping and taking road trips across the US
.
🌄We spend as much time as we can outdoors and being active, and it’s a big part of what drew us to Brown County. Kara - gardening & hiking; Clint - mountain biking & projecting on anything mechanical
.
👨👩👧👧We are so happy to be raising our daughters in a literal log cabin in the woods and showing them what you can accomplish with hard work, determination, and a little bit of imagination.
