It is with heavy hearts that we have to share this sad news: Our resident wood duck, Cypress, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving human family, on March 9. He was 14 years old. Since November 2021, Cypress had officially been basking in retirement, due to his failing eyesight and other health issues. Our feathered friend outlived the average life span for a duck; and in his final years, Cypress had been living off and on with Cypress Gardens' Horticulturist, Michelle, and her family. They took him home and gave him an amazingly blessed life post-retirement. He became best buds with a Golden Retriever, loved family game nights, and even had his own stocking at Christmas. Cypress was a staple part of Cypress Gardens and was dearly beloved by staff and visitors alike. He lived in the small pond inside the park's Butterfly House and was daily surrounded by fluttering Monarchs and Painted Ladies, as well as the marveling stares of parkgoers transfixed by his beautiful colors.
