UZOMAKA. The beauty of UZOMAKA is that she exists at the traversal of many time periods—in a place that is neither here nor there, but in between. In her creative expression, she channels the messages given to her through veneration of the Spirits at the gateways of the galaxies—through weaving, crochet, song, dance, beading, molding. She works in linen, indigo, cotton, wool, sisal and other indigenous fibers. This collection dubbed, “Mansa Musa’s Caravan”, hearkens to the long and arduous voyages traversed by the families descended of African royalty across terrains varying by language, by culture by spiritual-emotional climate. This collection is a visit home, to a place where treasures are collected into handwoven, hand dyed baskets for the sharing of gifts, be they tangible or immaterial. All works were made for ‘Please Hold’ the exhibition that runs through December 3rd at our Rockefeller Center location & is available for purchase in-store & on our website. #maker #care #wabisabi #indigenous #africa #woven #voyage
