Thank you Harpers Bazaar and Inma for this great honour. I am going to try and keep it short and take advantage of this incredible platform I’m given right now to direct our attention where it is so needed. I would have liked to speak to you about my home country of Lebanon. Where I spent the happiest years of my life and where today, the Lebanese people are exhausting themselves and all their resources trying to overturn a corrupt government that has used, abused and ruined their country for decades. I would have liked to speak to you about the consistant dehumanisation of the Palestinian people by the west. Something I’ve seen since I was a child and the anger and indignation that came from seeing such injustice never left me. I would have liked to say that basic human rights are a right for all and deserved by all and that very much includes the Palestinian people. But tonight I feel that thanks to you, I have a chance to put all our attention towards the men and women fighting for their freedom in Iran. The people of Iran are leading a revolution against an extremist fundamentalist government. The youth is highly educated and they demand the right to live in a modern society freed from human made godly laws that are designed to keep the powerful in power and the oppressed silent. Their bravery is commendable, they are fighting with their voice, their slogans, their spirit and their bodies. Nothing else. I believe it is our duty to mirror their chants and raise their voices higher and wider. If each of us in this beautiful room decided to dedicate a post, a story, a word to this worthy cause, the effect would be incredibly powerful. Do not underestimate the power of your individual voice. It’s mighty. I am humbled by this award and take it as an encouragement to do so much for more and for the rest of my life. Thank you #Lebanon #Palestine #Iran ❤️
