‘everything was beautiful, and nothing hurt.’ is an exhibition of moving image installations, drawn from the Henry Art Gallery collection, that spans a wide range of styles and conceptual approaches. The title references Kurt Vonnegut’s seminal antiwar novel ‘Slaughterhouse-Five,’ a nonlinear, metafictional narrative in which the protagonist struggles to come to terms with the devastating realities of human existence.
