What if I told you we were so close to saving one of the last truly wild places left on earth, where seas and forests, wetlands and tundra still brim with life to a degree lost throughout much of our planet? This a place overflowing with life.
78 MILLION wild sockeye salmon returned to Bristol Bay, Alaska this year. Let that sink in. To simply know places like this exist is to know that there is so much to save and that there are still wild places to experience so we never forget what we had to lose.
Our planet isn’t making more wilderness. I can promise you that. Once they’re gone, these complex tapestries of life are gone forever.
I’ve never been to Bristol Bay but I’ve fallen in love with the wildness of Alaska, and I’ve been raising my voice for this place since I was in high school some 18 years ago back when I first put a No Pebble Mine sticker on my old Volvo station wagon.
I grew up with a salmon stream just beyond the back fence of my childhood home in Northern California. By the time I was in high school the wild salmon had all but disappeared thanks to this thing some call “progress at any cost”.
We’ve never been closer to saving Bristol Bay from some greedy people who want to put a damn mine in there and ruin one of our planet's last wild places.
We can’t let that happen.
Please take a moment and sign the petition to Save Bristol Bay.
