Bye bye turf grass 👋⁣ ⁣ The drought here in LA just keeps getting worse, which means it’s time to replace our grass lawns! Grass is a monoculture that requires a ton of water to keep healthy, and classic turf options like bluegrass or ryegrass are not helping the environment or wildlife 😤

HOWEVER!⁣ ⁣ Not all grass spaces are evil though - backyard grass or local parks provide safe green spaces where kids can play - but there are environmentally “better” grass alternatives. If you want to preserve that clean green lawn, clover or California native no-mow grass are a few options to explore. They’re still monocultures, but they’re a step in the right direction 🤷‍♂️⁣ ⁣ The grass seen here was not serving a purpose in the backyard, so I asked this client if they would be ok removing the grass and planting a colorful array of succulents instead. Inspired by their latest trip to the Getty, they agreed and @emilyonthewings and I got to work 💪⁣ ⁣ I’ll do a more in depth, behind the scenes video on this process soon, but the next grass removal project will be in the front yard where the raised beds currently are. The plan here is to focus on native and pollinator friendly plants to aid the veggies and I’m super excited to see how it turns out 😋⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣⁣⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #FarmerNick #getyourhandsdirty #landscaper #landscaping #gardening #gardendesign #landscapedesign #succulents #grassremoval
