#ROACH took us two years (of which most during the COVID pandemic) to create and it all started with a photoshoot we had planned for @theoldschoolbarberacademy... Somehow, that day, and mostly because of @debonnhaire’s styling the models turned into characters... The mad professor, the Irish boxer with the broken heart and Monk, the vile preacher just to name a few... The next two years @jelleinmyear, @lennartvanbaalen and myself build a whole fictional universe around this growing group of make-belief inhabitants who were then brought alive by the talented hand of the inking legend @gutsman020 in the form of a graphic novel... What I loved the most about this project is that they are CHARACTERS, so the haircuts had to be recognizable and therefore not persé pretty (remember Ace Ventura or Mugatu from Zoolander, absolutely BRILLIANT 😂❤️) which really fueled our creativity... I love how the suits, the lighting and of course @jelleinmyear’s photography somehow make these haircuts work, almost in a Peaky Blinders kinda way where the actors put a hat on as soon as they finished a scene... (I actually know this from the lady who does the actors hair 😏) I came up with little biographies about all the ROACHes our “actors” so to say and it was SO MUCH FUN to bring them alive and I simply can’t wait to introduce them all to you, they’re mean, sometimes hideous but so, so lovable...
