Reposted from @thelegendsofmusic Soundgarden playing “Slaves & Bulldozers” Live at the Pinkpop Festival in 1992 Soundgarden have built a reputation for being the band that have gotten the closest to the original “grunge” sound and Badmotorfinger was that album, which reaffirmed that belief. My favorite song within that record is a song called “Slaves & Bulldozers”, which has lyrics written by the frontman Chris Cornell and music written by both bassist Ben Shepard and Chris Cornell. The vibe the song communicates to me is that it’s a song that revolves around the “Doom Metal” sub-genre, while also touching on “Heavy Metal” elements. When you listen to the original studio recording, you’ll notice that Chris’s voice gets louder with each verse. As a vocalist Cornell seems to switch frequently between being a Blues & a Heavy Metal vocalist. Many years later, when Tom Morello, Tim Commerford & Brad Wilk went looking for a new vocalist, this was the song that Rick Rubin played to them in an effort to convince them to recruit Chris Cornell as a vocalist. That’s how Audioslave became a band. iiii]; )'
