Mahdia’s ancient Great Mosque dates to the 10th century but still has the ability to stop you in your tracks with its simple beauty. Built when Mahdia was the capital of Ifriqiya it may have been covered in white marble which some say was stolen by the Pisans and used to construct the church of San Sisto.
