“I’m only doing the bare minimum.”
I hear this so often—and my response is always the same:
That’s OK.
Here’s the truth: Your brain (especially when stressed or overwhelmed) runs on automatic thoughts like “I should be doing more” or “This isn’t enough.”
CBT helps us pause and ask:
Is that thought helpful? Is it true?
Reframe it:
“Right now, I’m doing what I can—and that’s enough.”
Surviving is effort. The bare minimum still takes energy. And sometimes, it’s the bravest thing you can do.
✨CBT Tip: When you catch yourself in a spiral of self-judgment, try this:
Ask, “What would I say to a friend in this situation?”
Then say it to yourself.
You don’t need to do more to be worthy of rest or kindness.
Tag a friend who may need to hear this, and save it for you to come back to.
