As Her Majesty The Queen marks her Platinum Jubilee, Tatler celebrates her reign in the commemorative July issue – with a specially commissioned cover by Nigerian artist @oluwoleomofemi, a portrait that will go on display at @sothebys next week. England rugby star and art collector @maroitoje, a passionate supporter of @signatureafricanart, who represents Omofemi, says the work ‘captures the strength, elegance and dignity that the Queen has symbolised in her 70 years on the throne,’ adding: ‘Projects as special as this one do not come around very often... it has been an honour being a part of this historic story.’ Dubbing the portrait ‘the most important project of my life so far,’ Omofemi explains it is an artistic metaphor for freedom and power and he has deliberately depicted the Queen with a bold halo of black hair: ‘I also wanted to introduce my own style into this painting and, for me, hair represents the power of the woman.’ Click the link in bio to read Tatler Arts Editor Helen Rosslyn’s interview with the artist, and don’t miss a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the painting at @sothebys in London, set to join the ranks of historic portraits of British queens as part of its Jubilee Season from 28 May to 15 June. Tatler’s July issue is on sale 26 May.
