The Evangelist of Cool- Alessandro Michele- Bravo on a stellar journey with @gucci ! Yesterday it was announced that Michele will exit Gucci after seven years as creative director of the brand. Here are excerpts from my 2016 story about Alessandro Michele- a creative maverick, a maximalist outlier of craft and emotion. This story based on Gucci’s cruise 2017—showcased in the Gothic cloisters of Westminster Abbey -the overwhelming and historic seat of the Virgin Queen’s coronation in 1559- was one of my all time favorites! The day after the show, Vogue headed to Greenwich to the extraordinary 11-bedroom home of Ann Broadbent, an 80-plus-year-old thoroughbred maximalist (who, coincidentally, was married at the Westminster Abbey). Her home—a jungle of talismanic paraphernalia—was the perfect setting to photograph three charming and talented London ladies in Gucci’s cruise collection.
