I remember my old days at school when I was about 12 y.o. and I would learn how to Paint with color pencils or how to mix gouache basic colors but never how to mix both together! Not saying that learning One by one is wrong and you need to go through that process but after that you can decide if you want to jump out of box or not. A portrait made with ONLY graphite can look amazing but if you decide to add acrylic paint it still can look stunning. It's a question of practicing and exploring the best quality of each material and do the perfect combination.
