My mission is to encourage you not to be empowered, but to be POWERFUL. To do so we must transcend the discourse of “women empowerment.” The concept emerges from the idea that the elements needed to unlock our highest potential are found externally and not within us. These elements take the form of education, mobility, professional development, among others. An empowered woman is therefore a woman who has had these resources at hand. In other words, women empowerment is a luxury that 129 million girls worldwide with no access to schools because of political conflict, poverty, and gender based-violence simply cannot afford. It is in this implication where lies our opportunity to transcend. Our efforts towards the progress of women must take into account and rise above the cultural, social, and geographical barriers imposed to our mission. That is the only way to transform the exclusive process of empowerment into a universally inclusive experience of growth and human development for all. Initiatives such as the @wefcaribbean are crucial to notice that, far beyond the political and economic sense, the POWER LIES WITHIN US. Creating a global sphere where professionals and experts from the science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and social fields can rethink sustainable strategies for progress is necessary to help us and our people identify the power that makes all of us allies in life; the one we are all born with, but is violently taken away from us: the autonomy and freedom to choose who we want to be.
