“Sustainability” This word is often thought of as being pretty easy to interpret. Both theoretically and literally. This is because businesses across the world have systematically and intentionally devalued the word right under our noses. When a company throws around the catch phrases “sustainability agenda” or “sustainability goals”, with out being transparent about how they are going to get there, as well as the success markers along the way, then they are not only using the word as a marketing tool, but also as a deflection device for what is really going on(aka “greenwashing”). There are tons of different types of “washing” going on in the world today. Environmental, Social and Economic. We can all agree on this. This will only start to change if we as citizens of the planet, start to question the long term plans, or in this case statements of the people and entities out there in regards to the actual plans to be a more “sustainable” company. We have to stop letting companies convince us with one statement that they are “sustainable” or have a “sustainable agenda”. We have to demand transparency in order for these companies to be held accountable. I am not naive to the fact that these transformations don’t happen over night. What I am saying is that we need to be careful to not let the word “sustainable” lose its true meaning. Because at its core, it is a very powerful word, who’s definition can be a beacon for how we move forward as a species that truly appreciates this incredible rock hurtling through space that we call home. I am really trying to understand the dynamics of this word. But I would love your help. I’d love to hear your take on how we create Environmental, Social and Economic value around this word as opposed to letting it be used as a tool to cause confusion amongst consumers. Let me Know. Thank you for listening. #nosuchthingasabyproduct #onlyanotherproduct
