Hypnotherapy is about training those areas of the brain 🧠 we don’t normally have conscious control over, like your gut-brain connection.
During a hypnotherapy session for IBS, you will be guided into a hypnotic state. This simply means you’ll be deeply relaxed 😌 but with a heightened state of focus. You will be completely in control and aware of what is happening, but also comfortable, calm, and able to ignore outside distractions. Your brain becomes open to suggestions on how to better communicate with your gut to improve symptoms. It’s like giving your body and brain some rest and relaxation time to put their misunderstandings aside and recalibrate.
Typically, there are 3 stages to gut-directed hypnotherapy session:
1️⃣ Hypnotic induction = you’ll be guided through relaxation exercises and gently be induced into a focused state of relaxed and absorbed attention
2️⃣ Visualizations = exercises to help you visualize what’s going on in your gut. E.g. imagining your gut as a free-flowing river. You can control the flow according to your needs.
3️⃣ Suggestions = offering simple suggestions to the subconscious mind that addresses the miscommunication between the brain and gut.
