"Pakistan has never seen an unbroken cycle of monsoons like this...8 weeks of non-stop torrents have left huge swathes of the country under water,” said Sherry Rehman, Pakistan’s climate minister. This environmental catastrophe likely began with dramatic heatwaves earlier this year due to Pakistan having the most glaciers in the world outside of the Arctic/Antarctic — so rising temperatures have caused those glaciers to melt and now national rainfall in Pakistan is more than 240% above average, making this monsoon season the wettest in over 60 years.
