Some of you have asked me about how @chacha_cardenas manages on the boat. Well, it’s her boat and she just lets the rest of us on it.
I brought her a 3-piece fake grass system, and I brought replacement grass pads, which I change every few days. The plastic trays can just be hosed off and re-used. She’s got her bed, her blankie, her food, her bowls (I always travel with collapsible plastic ones), her airline-approved carrier, her life-jacket, her meds & vitamins, and even her favorite toy. Whenever we docked, I took her out for walks. And when we didn’t, we took her on a paddle-board (she doesn’t like to get wet) to the nearest beach for a walk. At airports, I take her out or bring a little patch of fake grass or a wee-pad. Chacha is repulsed by pet-relief areas. Traveling with dogs takes time, effort, planning and money. It’s not something you do last minute or casually. You need to research and fulfill the requirements of each country and mode of transportation. You need to do it with time because traveling often requires government-endorsed and/or veterinary certified forms. Hotels & planes/boats often charge an extra fee or deposit, in case of damage. And above all, you need to think about your dog’s wellbeing and quality of life. It is worth all the effort.
