How to get the most out of thrifting!
✨Identify your motivation
Consider why you’re thrifting. If you’re shopping for the thrill of acquiring large quantities of clothing or furniture for dirt cheap rather than out of necessity, you might want to reconsider.
✨Know your measurements
Vintage sizing is different from modern sizing, so it’s important to know your measurements before you start thrifting.
✨Be patient
Thrifting requires patience and careful searching.
✨Be flexible
You may not be able to find the exact thing you’re looking for, but you can always customize the unique items you find.
✨Check the quality
Check the quality, when it was made, and its wear-and-tear to gauge if the price is worth it.
✨Vacuum
Use a hand vacuum or the brush attachment to remove dirt and debris from the sofa’s surface.
Vacuum crevices where pet hair, food crumbs, and dirt accumulate. If the cushions are not attached, remove them and vacuum both sides.
✨Deodorize
Sprinkle baking soda over the sofa and let it sit for eight hours or overnight. The powder will absorb odors. Vacuum the powder to remove it. You can also mist the couch with straight white vinegar in a spray bottle. The vinegar smell will evaporate with time, taking odors with it.
✨Spot clean
For fabrics that can safely be cleaned with water, treat food and pet stains with an enzyme-containing formula.
✨Steam clean
Rent a steam cleaner to penetrate the upholstery ano clean deep down. The heat from the steam helps remove stains, kills bacteria, and can make your sofa look brand new.
✨Regular cleaning
Remove the cushions, vacuum them, and spot-treat any stains every week or two.
