Feeding schedule: if they are feeding every 2 to 3 hours during the day allows them to sleep for longer stretches at night Sleep sack: this makes them feel as though they’re in the womb and doesn’t allow their startle reflex to wake them. Sound machine and dark room at night: drowns out any outside noise. You can also add a shusher which mimics the sound inside the womb. If you need a night light I recommend using a red light. Sleepy cues: when they are up during the day look for sleepy cues (“the stare”, big yawns, fussiness, rubbing eyes etc.) so that you can put them down for a nap before they get over tired. Once they become over tired this increases their adrenaline and makes it more difficult to put them to sleep. Bedtime routine: create a bedtime routine like bath time gets them to recognize it’s time for bed. Wake window activities: wake window is the time between one nap and the next. When they are awake you want to do activities with them like tummy time and learning stimulation cards. This time is usually 60-90 minutes for newborns.
