It is gut wrenching to hear of yet another bright, young healthcare worker, ending their life after struggling to cope with the realities of working in healthcare & enduring medical training. Their decision directly correlated with their experiences navigating grueling residency & the unrealistic expectations & responsibilities of medical training. Even though these systems create environments for harm: Healthcare workers still face stigma when it comes to seeking help for our mental health. With programs & licensing boards having written (and unwritten) policies that punish those who seek support. These institutions, programs & healthcare as a whole need to step up & protect & preserve the mental health & well being of the healthcare workers we have. We are not okay. We deserve support and not scrutiny or stigma. We started @dontclockoutorg after the loss of Nurse Michael Odell, an incredible nurse whose story reached nurses nationwide.
