Excited to see the cover image of new FOAM magazine #62 M/OTHERLANDS for which I wrote a piece on Tanja Ostojić’s work “Integration Impossible?” and created an edit from the physical archive in Berlin w/ @thomasfriedrichschaefer Thanks to the artist and the editorial team! Repost @foam_magazine A recognizable reference to Gustave Courbet’s “The Origin of the World,” is also the cover of Tanja Ostojić’s "Integration Impossible? The Politics of Migration in the Artwork”, published in 2009 and showcasing a selection of projects realized between 2000 and 2008. As scholar Judith Surkis said: "The real scandal of her work lay not in its sexual explicitness, but in how it located sex at the centre of European politics". ‘[...] Ostojić is interested in the history of Europe, biopolitics and community building: the ethical aspects of artistic practice and in the questioning of immigration law concerning her non-EU background, her gender, and the fragility of the position of women in the context of migration.’ - Quote by Marina Paulenka See more of Ostojić’s participatory web project entitled “Looking for a Husband with EU Passport (2000–2005)” in Foam Magazine 62: M/OTHERLANDS. Available for PRE-ORDER with a 1 or 2 year subscription, see link in bio. Cover image (detail): Untitled / After Courbet (L’origine du monde), 2004, Colour photograph, 46 x 55 cm © Tanja Ostojić and David Rych.
