"A picture means I know where I was every minute. That’s why I take pictures. It’s a visual diary." —Andy Warhol Andy Warhol was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on this day, August 6, in 1928. Warhol was a lifelong photographer and even had a darkroom in his family home when he was a young man. Best known for using a Polaroid camera, photography became the source material for paintings reflecting his preoccupation with mechanical reproduction, serial repetition, and the removal of the artist’s hand. “Andy Warhol: Paris and Fashion,” an exhibition of photographs by Warhol from the 1970s to the mid-1980s, opens on September 8 at Gagosian, rue de Castiglione, Paris.
