AMERICAN SYMPHONY @jonbatiste @carnegiehall It’s taken me a few days to find words to describe this past Thursday at @carnegiehall. So much life, joy, passion, courage, learning, resilience, sacrifice, and growth went into this process, to witness such an all-encompassing (and 3-year long!) process culminate in such an unbridled expression of LOVE and SPIRIT was one of the most life-affirming experiences I’ve ever had. All the way back in 2018 when we first started fleshing the piece out, we already knew the strength and integrity of the vision would come to fruition, but to see it to completion despite countless unexpected turns and speed bumps was a journey in and of itself. Like Jon says in the Night theme.. “we shall overcome” . @jonbatiste I’m so deeply grateful to you for including me in your vision, and for your trust in both the joyful and intense moments in all parts of this process. Your artistry, musicianship, passion, dedication, humility, respect for all people, and never-ending personal expression of joy have been the most inspiring parts of my life these last four years. I’m honored to call you a collaborator, friend, and brother 🙏🏼🙏🏼 so much more music to come, yall ain’t even ready . @_glennalexanderii my brother, I can’t thank you enough for your work and commitment to seeing this through. You brought this whole process together and were the force that made this come to reality. We had the blueprints, but you sir built the house. . HUGE shoutout to all the musicians that played on this- from every soloist to each member of the orchestra, I know Jon and I are so deeply grateful for your dedication to this music. And you all sounded so incredible, it was a very unique privilege to hear music I’ve written sing like it did this past week .
