Tree-lined streets - such a simple way to bring nature into our lives, to make new places feel green and settled! There’s so much we can learn from the Edwardian and 1920s Garden City movement. These images are some of the designs that we’ve been developing for our new town of @welborneuk in Hampshire which we have been working on over the last three years. It’s a wonderful project with a visionary landowner developer who set an aspiration to make a place that people will still want to live in a hundred years’ time - a place that is long lasting and beautifully planned. Ultimately containing up to 6000 homes, the new town will have three schools, health centres, a huge array of shops and businesses, as well as a commercial area for bigger industrial units immediately adjacent, a huge town park, a 10km circular walking and running path, hundreds of allotments - many in smaller pockets and garden squares near peoples homes, and a civic centre and town hall. I’ll show some more images over the next few days. Work starts on site with the construction of the first phase next year and we’ll be spending the rest of this year developing the detailed designs and proposals for the first streets and village centre, together with the first primary school. It’s at moments like this that I love the wide range of projects that the studio is now involved with - not just large houses and interiors. I love the mix and the chance to help plan a greener future! Lots of people in the office have worked on Welborne, but especially @sandromule @willcreech and @reubarchi to name a few.
