At first it’s fun- you make the decision to ditch the dye and it’s exciting and new and you’re pumped for the possibilities.
Then scary- aka months 3-9. It looks horrible. This is bad. Like, really scary ohmygosh what am I doing bad. The roots are screaming to be covered up and you know everyone is staring at your head wondering why you’ve given up on life.
Then it’s fun again. You can’t pinpoint exactly when in the last year it happened, but somehow with every inch of silver roots YOU grew as a person. You have a confidence you’ve never had. You’ve stopped worrying about other peoples opinions and can kind of see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Then spooky, but fun. Those dyed ends that you loathed the first year have become a badge of honor. You almost don’t want to see the last inches of them go. Is this feeling what all those other grey goddesses have been posting about? You look at your last selfie and are taken back- when did that inner glow start shining through? Your natural color looks nothing like those awful roots you embarrassedly embraced that first year. It’s flattering and compliments your skin and eyes and the pattern is so YOU. I doesn’t look like anyone else’s and that is the best part. You love it...but more importantly you love you. All of you. And you realize this has been about so much more than a hair color the whole time.
