✨Day 350 of 365✨ styling a vintage piece from my grandma‘s and my collection every day for a year! Let’s talk about the rise (and fall) of Sears! Sears starts as a mail-order catalog around 1895 and is popular with farmers who are sick of buying overpriced, limited goods from local general stores. By 1925, they opened a brick and mortar store in Chicago (in addition to the catalog) and people fell in love with the ability to get so many things in one place! Through the 80s, Sears was the LARGEST retailer in the US and made up for 1% of the US economy completely by itself, however car culture meant mail order became less necessary and by the 90s they were losing 1$ million a DAY on catalogs alone! They stopped making catalogs, diversified into banking and insurance, but Walmart passed them as the largest retailer in 1990 and by 2010, Sears was no longer profitable! Today I styled the dress from @wildvintagecollective with Grandma’s 70s suede platforms, vintage clip-on earrings, a silk scarf in my hair, and a crossbody bag! Part of me wishes I could visit a Sears in 1960 just to experience the community, but department stores today don’t entice me much... how do you feel about department stores? #vintage #vintageootd #stylevintage #vintagestyle #sustainablefashion #slowfashion #shopvintage #vintagefashion #vintageinspo #vintageaesthetic #retroaesthetic #childhoodmemories #fashionhistory #20thcenturyfashion #20thcentury #sears #1970s #1970sfashion #1970sstyle #1970sclothes #1970sdress #1970svintage #70sstyle #70sfashion
