Did your sex education at school include everyone? Or were you separated and girls and boys taught about different things? Our research (Yougov) found that only half of women could correctly label a diagram of the gynae anatomy, and only 40% of all people surveyed could. If something goes wrong later in life with gynae health, it's important for us to be able accurately describe our symptoms to a doctor, this includes using the correct anatomical language. That way we can reduce confusion and help doctors know what tests we need and have a better idea of what might be wrong. We want to educate and empower young people so they know their body and feel comfortable and confident talking about it (accurately) if they need to seek help. We believe that all children, regardless of their gender, should have the opportunity to learn about female anatomy. Having knowledge about what others go through can help us all empathise with the people we love and others in our community. To stop the stigma around gynae health we also NEED everyone involved in the conversation. We need anatomy and periods to be normal conversations- that aren't embarrassing or disgusting- and to do that we need everyone to know about them and understand them. That's why our Know Your Body lesson plans are for all young people, and are delivered to non-separated classrooms. Check out our Know Your Body lesson plans through the link our bio- they’re free to download!
