Swipe for the before / inspiration for this project —-> Its been a little bit since my last project post. This one has a little story behind it ... But this was a quick flip of two vintage bentwood armchairs I found at my thrift store. After some research I found they were made to look like these VERY expensive mid 20th century ‘ Thonet Bentwood armchairs.’ So I wanted to make them look similar.
I got rid of the terrible office furniture fabric , gave the cushions some nice emerald green crushed velvet , and I caned the back rest. The came out exactly how I wanted. And we’re not even a fraction of the cost of buying anything similar.
***Story time***Since I live in furniture Mecca right now , I reached out to a local chair caning business to get some advise. At first the woman was very nice and then I told her my plan. And showed her pictures of the chair. The woman got rude and then told me, “ I’m sorry to rain on your parade but I would council you NOT to do that. You need the tools and talent to do that... and that’s how I make my living. So good luck... because that will NOT work. “
Needless to say I was not happy with that answer and proceeded anyway. Two days later , I have two caned chairs. I want to send her an update email thanking her for lighting a fire in me to prove my abilities to myself and tell her I’m coming for her gig 🤣😂 #vintage #diy #mcm #furniture #thriftflip
