Unfortunately I didn’t take great photos of this project but wanted to share it anyway. Scroll for The after and in-between.
This dresser has sat in my grandmothers “back room” for as long as I can remember. My Mom-Mom told me that she wanted to refinish it and told that my great grandfather(who was a jack of all trades ) built it for her when she was young. So I’m going to guess around the 40s/50s.
It was made completely out of scrap wood. There is plywood , cedar , poplar , cedar closet liners and other miscellaneous woods. So I stripped it down Layer by layer. I came across some of his original markings which was kind of a cool way to feel connected to someone I had never gotten to meet.
I did my best to evenly stain the piece and decided to just let the individual woods shine in their own way since that was just how it was built. As a finisher I added some antique glass knobs. It was definitely a PROCESS and is far from perfect , but my Mom-Mom was beaming when I revealed it to her and told me “he would be very proud.” So for that, I’m so happy with the end result. #diy #refinishedfurniture #beforeandafter
